While we are most familiar with artificial turf grass being on sports fields, there are many other places where turf is not only appropriate, but beneficial. Your backyard is one of them! Not only does turf significantly add to your home’s curb appeal, but it also has several environmental benefits.
- Erosion control
- Traps dirt, smoke, and pollutants contributing to cleaner air
- Noise reduction
- Saving on water
- Increases the value of your home or business
Erosion Control:
Turf will work naturally to intercept raindrops before they disturb the soil. This means that your turf grass will promote water filtration instead of runoff. Since healthy turf absorbs rainfall much more effectively than grass, and slows the flow of water, it naturally helps to combat soil erosion, which is a big threat to our environmental health.
Dirt & Pollutant Trap:
Dust, smoke particles, pollutants, sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide, etc. are absorbed into turf grass. This contributes to clean air, which is not only beneficial to our environment, but our health. Additionally, climate is controlled at ground level by turf grass because it cools temperatures substantially, which contributes to turf working as a sort of an exterior air conditioner.
Noise Reducer:
Like turf traps dust and pollutants, it also traps noise. This helps to cut down on excessive noise. Noise reduction is particularly beneficial in urban areas where excessive sound is a greater issue.
Saving Water:
While turf does need to be maintained to thrive (more on this later), maintenance is significantly decreased. Regular grass needs to be watered constantly and, as mentioned above, it does not absorb as well as turf. Because of this, turf can contribute to saving money on water bills, as well as serving as another environmental benefit.
Increases Value:
It’s no secret that turf looks beautiful. Not only does the lush green and healthy appeal of your turf add to the overall aesthetic of the home (increasing the value on its own), but the known environmental benefits of turf also contribute to its appeal, further increasing the value of your property.
While turf is very low maintenance, turf applications are important in maintaining a thriving and luscious turf. Red Cedar provides both residential and commercial turf treatment applications. Our comprehensive program maximizes your lawn’s health, which also makes it less susceptible to insects and disease.
